2011 NECF CONSERVATION PROJECTS - CLICK HERE FOR MORE INFORMATION!
Natural Encounters Conservation Fund (NECF) is a sister company
to
Natural Encounters, Inc. and serves as its non-profit
arm. It is a private, 501(c) 3 that is dedicated to promoting
wildlife and environmental conservation through education
and funding.
Originally named The World of Birds Show, Inc.,
the company began operating under the DBA of Natural Encounters
Conservation Fund, Inc., in 2003 because the name better
represents the company’s mission and goals.
NECF is supported entirely by Natural Encounters,
Inc. and has no paid employees; therefore, one hundred percent
of the proceeds raised through NECF go directly to the conservation
projects it supports. The World of Birds Show/NECF has raised
and donated over $1,00,000 to conservation projects in the past 20 years.
In addition
to monetary awards, NECF occasionally provides workers and other support for
organizations involved in wildlife and habitat preservation. NECF also operates
a Staff Development Fund where zoological facilities are given monetary awards
to use at their discretion for the growth and development of their keeper staff.
NECF hopes to make its greatest impact on our environment by
providing assistance where it is needed and encouraging, supporting, and rewarding
conservation efforts of others. In addition, NECF promotes educational programs that help people understand
their relationship with the other species we share this planet with, as well
as our undeniable dependency on the living earth.
Below are
the species that have benefited from donations from
NECF:
- Javan Rhino
- Cheetah
- Brown Hyena
- Bell Birds
- Southern Ground Hornbills
- California Condor
- Palm Cockatoos
- Lear's Macaw
- Blue-throated Macaw
- Harpy Eagle
Beyond the specific conservation projects list above, NECF is a long time supporter
of the following three conservation groups. The Peregrine Fund - World Center
for Birds of Prey has been instrumental in saving several species of endangered
birds of prey such as the Bald Eagle, Peregrine Falcon, Maritaus Kestrel, Aplomado
Falcon, California Condor and others.
The World Parrot Trust - strives to save
parrots and their natural habitat, not only through research and breeding programs,
but also through the promotion of responsibly managed ecotourism and the responsible
use of native habitat.
The Moholoholo Wildlife Refuge - works tirelessly to save
injured animals and educate people about the value of wildlife and natural habitats
in South Africa.
